OVERVIEW
As Director of Photography for "Cult Classiqué," I brought to life a chilling 1980s world where the small town of Hargrove lives in fear of Friday the 13th. Drawing heavy inspiration from John Carpenter's cinematographic approach in "Halloween," I crafted a visual language that heightened the tension as the local sheriff pursued outcast Johnny, whose mysterious music tape might hold the key to the town's gruesome murders.
challenges & approach
Despite working with a limited budget and minimal equipment—primarily an FX3 camera, three primary lights, and carefully planned setups—we achieved a striking visual aesthetic that authentically captured the slasher and cult horror elements of this genre-blending film.
the result
The production showcased my ability to innovate under constraints, employing a combination of traditional techniques and creative problem-solving. From shoulder rig work that maintained the film's intimate feel to ambitious tracking sequences using our homemade dolly paired with a Ronin S2 Pro gimbal and Raven Eye system, each shot was meticulously planned to maximize visual impact. Collaborating with directors John Lindahl and Josh Michael Payne, I delivered compelling visuals that prove cinematic storytelling depends more on creative vision than expensive equipment—transforming limitations into opportunities for visual ingenuity.
